Five Star Books

I love these books for so many reasons: they’re quirky, they’re poignant, they make me laugh or cry, they teach me something I didn’t know without my knowing I’m learning sometimes. The main characters are young and old, kind and not so kind. These books make me glad I learned to read so many years ago.

  1. Four of your favorites are among my favorites too.
To Kill A Mockingbird-which by the way I have read I don't even know how many times!
    Peace Like A River
    Turtle Moon and
Lonesome Dove-which I adored but is a book I was only persuaded to read through RP. Who would have thought?

  2. Pam -- I'm with you. I would never have read "Lonesome Dove" if not for RP. Isn't great that we have such a place to go for recommendations?

  3. I like your list! I have read many of the books on your list and some are my favorites, too. I especially liked The Hunger Games, Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, Smilla's Sense of Snow, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lonesome Dove (audio narrated so wonderfully by Lee Horseley), and Life of Pi. Others I also enjoyed are House of Sand and Fog and David Copperfield (recently finished).
I think I may have read Turtle Moon and liked it, but I can't remember it. Did you read The Ice Queen also by Alice Hoffman? That would certainly be on my favorites list.

  4. Hi Meminger - Sounds like we have similar taste. I don't think I read "Ice Queen," although I've read almost all of Hoffman's other books.

I haven't listened to many audio books - but the Horseley version of "Lonesome Dove" sounds like fun.
